This project worked on the health and hygiene conditions that are required in the maternity department of the Aaiun regional hospital, in the Sahara. The living conditions in the desert are very harsh, especially if we add the characteristics of a refugee camp in the most inhospitable area of the Algerian desert.

The Saharawi refugee camps in Tinduf have deep-rooted customs of giving birth in haimas, with the dangers that this entails of infections and health risks for the mother and the baby. The project's action focused on providing material resources to the Aaiun regional hospital, so that pregnant women are guaranteed the minimum health and hygiene conditions during childbirth and later during the days of hospital stay.
