The Universitat de València wishes to express its dismay at the tragedy unfolding in Venezuela following the earthquakes. We extend our condolences to the victims and our solidarity with those affected, with thousands of confirmed deaths already. Rescue teams are working against the clock to locate many other people who remain missing under the rubble.

We want to highlight in particular our support for the university community in the South American country, which has even suspended its activities throughout Venezuela in order to collaborate in the efforts to restore normality, both in emergency work and in organising the delivery of humanitarian aid. We also express our solidarity with the Venezuelan people who are part of our own university community.

We call on the entire university community – Teaching and Research Staff, Technical, Management and Administrative Staff, and students – to give practical expression to their solidarity with the people affected.
