THE RUSSIAN-UKRAINIAN WAR. FROM GEOPOLITICS TO ECONOMICS

The Covid-19 pandemic crisis has made us aware of the interconnection that exists between the global and the local. The global pandemic of 2020, which started more than 8,000 kilometres away from the Valencians in China, has changed our lives and has even paralysed the local economy. Now the Russian-Ukrainian war is once again opening our eyes to the world around us, and looking beyond the local level. What is the impact of this conflict on the Valencian economy? And, with respect to other international conflicts, are we Valencians oblivious to them? Throughout this course, the aim is to answer these and other questions with the help of renowned experts in the field.

The scope and nature of the interaction between the global and local worlds will be studied from the paradigm of globalisation. According to the father of this approach (Ronald Robertson), it is based on the premise that the process of globalisation does not exclude the local, but rather that the two worlds complement each other. There is a conscious articulation between the global and the local. There are multiple interconnections between both spheres in very diverse scenarios. In this sense, international geopolitics and its impact on the global and local economy will be analysed from the Valencian perspective. As Giddens (1994) says, local events are shaped by events that take place many kilometres away and vice versa.
