NEED FOR THE ANALYTICAL CONTROL OF COSMETIC PRODUCTS. COSMETIC SECTOR PROBLEMS.

Cosmetic products do not present the health implications that pharmaceuticals products do. However, they are used daily or very frequently, so their production must be controlled closely.

This control must ensure that the components and their authorised limits in the finished product comply with the regulations required by the European legislation.

Moreover, it is also necessary to ensure that the characteristics of the finished and marketed product are identical to those of the initial formulation as otherwise it may decrease the effectiveness of the product and even become harmful to users.

To perform this analytical control of cosmetic products, appropriate methods of analysis are required.

However, there are few official analytical methods for cosmetic products. It is therefore necessary to develop methods that can be used to analyse the components of all types of cosmetic forms.

OBJECTIVE OF THE RESEARCH LINE

The main objective of our research line on "Analytical control of cosmetic products" is the design, development and validation of analytical methods for these products.

GROUP'S EXPERIENCE IN THE ANALYSIS OF COSMETICS

Our group has been working for several years in the design, development and validation of analytical methods for the control of the composition of cosmetic products. We also develop analytical methods useful in studies on percutaneous absorption and the excretion of cosmetic ingredients from the human body.

The work carried out has been published in international scientific journals and has been presented in conferences, meetings and congresses.

We wrote two sections about cosmetic products for the Encyclopedia of Analytical Chemistry published by Elsevier.
