Preference box

Place preference box PANLAB
Preference box
Brand: Place preference box PANLAB
Type: Equipment

Equipment designed to perform automated assessment of conditioned place preference and aversion in rodents.

Description

The experimental box consists of two methacrylate compartments of the same size interconnected by a central grey corridor. The compartments can be differentiated by both visual and tactile cues: the colour of the walls of each compartment (black or white) and the texture of the floors (smooth or rough). The enclosure is provided with transparent front walls that can be covered with removable opaque covers (included). Manually operated sliding doors are provided to manage access to the two compartments from the aisle.

The experimental enclosure can be supplied with or without an automatic animal position detection system. Automatic animal position detection can be achieved by means of a weight transducer system associated with the PPCWIN PC-based control software or by means of the SMART video monitoring system.

Practical implementation
  • Place Preference Box is a standard experimental chamber for the automated assessment of conditioned place preference and aversion in rodents, two tests widely used to detect the reinforcing properties of drugs (or natural stimuli), as well as to investigate the neurobiological brain systems involved in reward and addiction.
