The CIDE Sustainability Committee is an internal entity whose main task is to integrate, coordinate and supervise strategies that promote sustainable development within the center's research, teaching and management activities. Its objective is to foster an institutional culture aligned with the principles of environmental sustainability, social responsibility and efficiency in the use of resources, in line with the values of the CSIC and the public administration.

As part of this work, the Committee is actively working to identify and promote good practices that reduce the environmental impact of our daily activities. Among the actions that are being evaluated or have already begun to be implemented are:

  • Promote more sustainable transportation for personnel, encouraging carpooling, public transportation, cycling or telecommuting, whenever possible, in order to reduce emissions associated with daily commuting.
  • Reducing waste and promoting recycling by promoting internal awareness campaigns, improving selective collection at the facilities, and reviewing purchasing processes to minimize single-use packaging and non-recyclable materials.
  • Study of the carbon footprint of the center and its personnel, with the aim of knowing our emissions with greater precision and developing realistic plans to reduce them progressively.
  • Energy transition and efficiency, exploring measures to improve the energy efficiency of the facilities, such as optimizing electricity consumption, using renewable energies or improving thermal insulation.
  • Promotion of an environmental culture in the CIDE community, through awareness-raising activities, workshops, training and spaces for participation to encourage collective commitment to sustainability.

The Committee is also part of a joint work network with other CSIC centers in the Valencian Community (such as IATA, I2SysBio, among others), with whom we share objectives, experiences and initiatives in the field of sustainability. This collaboration makes it possible to coordinate efforts and advance more effectively towards a more environmentally friendly institutional model.

The active participation of the CIDE community is essential to advance along this path. Therefore, we encourage all the center's staff to contribute with ideas, proposals or suggestions that help to improve our sustainable practices. These can be sent to the following e-mail address:

Together, we can build a center that is more sustainable, responsible and committed to the future of the planet.
