To be able to supervise doctoral theses, the following requirements are required:
- Hold a doctoral degree.
- Demonstrate research experience (at least one sexenio de investigación).
- Be authorised by the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme.
Spanish or foreign staff who, due to their legal status, cannot apply to the CNEAI for the evaluation of their research activity, must demonstrate a minimum of five relevant scientific contributions in their field in the last ten years, in accordance with the specific criteria established by the CNEAI for each of the evaluation fields, of which at least three must be indexed scientific publications or published in other media of recognised prestige in the area, in accordance with the provisions of the Doctoral School (Permanent Board Agreement 72/2025).
Yes. The Academic Committees of doctoral programmes can set specific and additional requirements for supervising theses (e.g. holding quinquenios, being a member of academic staff, etc.).
At the University of Valencia, you cannot supervise more than 10 doctoral theses simultaneously.
