Who authorises the addition of a thesis supervisor to a programme?

The Academic Doctoral Commission is the body competent to authorise the appointment of a Doctor as a potential thesis supervisor. This body verifies that the general and, where applicable, specific requirements for supervising theses are met, and notifies the Doctoral School for registration.

Description of the procedure
  1. The Academic Commission notifies the School of the additions or removals of researchers as potential thesis supervisors in one or more research lines of the Doctoral Programme.
  2. The Doctoral School records this information in the database for each doctoral programme.

To communicate this authorisation, the Academic Commission must complete and sign the form available on the Doctoral School website:  Administrative Information > Guides and Forms > Forms for Administrative Procedures > Authorisation to Supervise Dissertations in a Doctoral Programme. The document must be signed by the Coordinator of the Doctoral Programme.

To notify a supervisor's withdrawal, it is sufficient to send a communication identifying the researcher who is leaving the Doctoral Programme.

Access to the procedure

The Academic Committee must submit the documentation via the Universitat de València’s electronic submission system, selecting:

  • Recipient: Internal unit → Centres → Doctoral School
  • Recipient group: Authorisation to supervise a thesis in a doctoral programme
