Electronic engineering is, by nature, a transversal field of knowledge in many areas. For instance, we can find electronic developments in so many dissimilar areas such as chemical engineering (development of sensors, control of procedures), IT engineering (data and communication Systems, Systems of acquisition and processing), medicine (acquisition and processing of images, data  for diagnosis), physical activity sciences (ergonomics, support Systems for people with disabilities, Systems of high precession measurement), physical sciences (equipment of measurement, Systems of data acquisition),etc.

This large amount of applications creates a necessity for engineers to know in depth subjects such as power electronics, digital electronics, signal processing or communications electronics. Following this idea, the doctoral programme in Electronics Engineering was design as a tool to train experts in developing electronic systems and equipment able to deal successfully with many disciplines and carry out research in the field of electronics to improve their performance.
