Applications now open for “La Caixa” Foundation postgraduate scholarships

The ‘La Caixa’ Foundation has opened applications for its 2016 postgraduate scholarships programme. This foundation grants 140 scholarships each year to students pursuing Master’s and Doctoral degrees throughout Spain, Europe, North America or the Asia-Pacific region.

These fellowships are open to any person of Spanish nationality with an undergraduate education (bachelor’s degree, diploma, architectural degree or Technical Engineering studies or higher) obtained between January 2007 and June 2016. Three types of grants are offered with different requirements:

European Scholarships (65 places)

For any postgraduate course offered in countries integrated in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), except Spain. The full allotment is 1.400€ per month, plus further assistance towards administrative fees, relocation, etc., as well as all registration costs in the receiving institution.

Applications close on 8 February 2016 at 2 pm (peninsular time). Enrolment in the selected course starts from September or October 2016, for one or two academic years (up to a maximum of 24 months).

North America – Asia-Pacific Scholarships (55 places)

For any postgraduate course offered in North American (USA or Canada) universities or institutions in the Asia-Pacific region (Australia, South Korea, India, Japan, Singapore and China). The monthly allowance varies depending on the country of destination, and further aids include administrative fees, transport, etc., as well as all registration costs in the receiving institution.

Applications close on 4 April 2016 at 2 pm (peninsular time). Depending on the grantee’s destination, he or she will have a different start date:

  1. North America: Academic Year 2017-2018 (Fall term, autumn 2017).
  2. Asia-Pacific: January 2017.

Spanish Doctoral Studies Scholarships (20 places)

For any doctor’s degree ending in the reading of a doctoral or PhD thesis in a university or investigation centre located in Spain. The recipient of the grant must be in possession of a graduate or postgraduate degree enabling him or her to follow a Doctoral Degree programme, which must have been obtained between January 2011 and June 2016. He or she cannot already be a PhD graduate.

The full grant is worth 115.500€, separated in three annual allotments of 36.000€, plus an additional 7.500€ reward for depositing the thesis in the six months following the final third year of the grant.

Applications close on 29 February 2016 at 2 pm (peninsular time). Enrolment in the selected university or investigation centre starts from September or October 2016.
