Over the 3, 4 and 5 October 2013 the Colegio Mayor Rector Peset at the University of Valencia will host the first scientific meeting of its kind, assembling European and American art historians, archaeologists, architects, physical anthropologists, conservators and restorers, historians and chemists currently engaged in international archaeometric studies of Pre-Hispanic material culture, art and architecture.

The Workshop, launched by the History of Art Department at the University of Valencia, seeks to assemble under one roof those specialists that have made the most relevant findings over the last decade with respect to the materials and artistic techniques employed in ancient America in the development of all manner of cultural, architectural and artistic expression, such as codices, ceramics, figures, funerary items, graffiti, stuccos, mural painting, palaces, temples, metals, ritual scents and body paints, among other recent findings.

Researchers participating in the workshop shall focus their papers on the microscopic, spectroscopic, electrochemical and chromatographic techniques employed in the recording, historical and historical-artistic investigation and conservation of these works, and on the state-of-the-art and precise information derived from the combination of all these techniques, that are so essential to the broadening of our knowledge of the Pre-Columbian culture and society responsible for all these creations.
