The Barcelona Expert Center (BEC)  ICM/CSIC (
http://cp34-bec.cmima.csic.es/bec/) in Barcelona, Spain, invites
applications for a Post Doc position on sea ice remote sensing.
This position is funded by the Spanish Research Council. The fellow will
join the Cryospheric group of the BEC, and will work on developing tools
and algorithms to retrieve sea ice parameters from remote sensing
measurements, in particular from the SMOS radiometer data. Moreover,
validation activities and synergies will be performed.
The ESA SMOS mission carries an L-band radiometer (passive) which has the
capability to measure thin ice thickness (thanks to its penetration), as
well as ice concentration, among other parameters.
Candidates for this position must have a PhD. and a strong background on
Cryospheric science and physics of the Ice. Applications are invited from
candidates with an interest in remote sensing, sea ice geophysics, and/or
snow/ice hydrology. The candidate should be self-motivated, with good
writing and communication skills. Additional required skills include:
  *   Experience with remote sensing datasets
  *   Some programming skills, such as in Matlab, C or Python.
  *   Knowledge of geophysics, preferably the evolving sea ice
characteristics relevant to microwave passive measurements.
The expected start date is October-November, 2016. The contract will have
a duration of 1 year with possibility to extend it another year.
Enquiries and applications should include a letter of intent that
describes your research interests, a complete curriculum vitae, and
contact information for two professional referees who can provide
reference letters.  Applications should be e-mailed to:
