History of the French and Italian Department

In 1978, the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters was divided into three parts: Geography and History, Philology and Philosophy, and Education Sciences. The French and Italian Studies, which were already taught in the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, came to depend on the Romanic Philology Department, whose first director was Dr Elena Real. With the Legal Reform of University Departments, this one was renamed as the Department of French and Italian Philology.

The Department of French and Italian Philology, appointed to the Faculty of Philology, Transaltion and Communication, imparts two degrees: French Studies (First and Second Cycle) and Italian Studies (Second Cycle). Our department has over 40 professors and about a thousand pupils. The areas to wich the lecturers are related to are those of French Philology and Italian Philology.

The Department also provides lectures in the following degrees: Translation and Interpretation, Humanities, Tourism, Economics, and Pharmacy.
The Department also offers Third Cycle Studies, which lead to the title of Doctor in Philology.
