During the week of 2 to 5 May, it is celebrated the 1st National Meeting of Traumatology and the 13th National Meeting of Rescue 2017 at the parking lot of Ramón Llull plot at the Tarongers Campus of the Universitat de València.

The traffic accidents cause human and economic damages, being a real concern of public security and health.

In addition, a remarkable percentage of occupational accidents must be included in the area of road accidents, a percentage that increases dramatically in the case of fatal occupational accidents.

Despite the considerable efforts which are being made by all the Institutions, the WHO is still warning that traffic accidents are the eighth cause of death in the world. In Spain, a high percentage of accidents in itinere and in mission are due to road accidents.

In a balance of road accident of 2017 published by the Directorate-General for Traffic shows values of 1000 fatal accidents in rural roads, among them, almost 1200 people died and 5000 needed hospitalisation.

It is worth stressing, according to data from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Hygiene (INSHT), the high rate of traffic accidents in the workplace, which requires greater training, prevention and awareness policies in order to prevent the accidents in the professional environment, guaranteeing a greater safety to the employees.

All this makes the Road and Occupational Safety or should not be considered as a key element on which to act to achieve improvement in the safety and health conditions of citizens and workers. It is necessary that all public institutions related to this matter make an effort to address this issue in a preventive and formative way, improving the social awareness and decreasing the road accidents and its consequences for society.

It has been achieved and celebrated the 1st National Meeting of Traumatology and the 13th National Meeting of Rescue 2017 through a joint work between the The Provincial Fire Consortium of Valencia (CPBV), the Professional Association of Rescue in Traffic Accidents (APRAT), the Vice-Principal for Academic Planning, Teaching Staff and Sustainability, the Health and Safety and the Environment Service (SPMA),  the Faculty of Nursing and Chiropody, the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, the Security Department, the Medical students association in emergency and urgency (AEMES.
