The email list service of the University of Valencia is currently implemented through the Listserv software, specifically in its 14.5 version.

LISTSERV is a programme package that automatizes the management of email lists. It has been developed by the enterprise L-Soft International Inc. and it is one of the email list servers with the highest efficiency and one of the most used ones around the world.

It automatically manages the distribution of sent message in a list to all its subscripts; it automatically archives the distributed messages, it allows to choose between receiving the messages exactly as they are sent, grouped in a digest which includes all the messages from one day, for example or even (in the case of lists with a high traffic of information) only receiving a message with the sender and the theme of each of the messages in a way that the user can after choose to receive only those of his/her interest (though an email or a website).

The users can subscribe, unsubscribe or ask for information on one or more lists only using the commands sent in an email message’s body. Additionally, it provides a WWW interface through which, using the browser can access the managing tasks of the lists (only the list’s responsible), modify the configuration options or consult the list’s archives even doing searches on them.
