The Universitat de València Chair of Youth celebrates the publishing of a new academic article on the las numbr of the Pedagogy and Social Work Paper of the University of Girona.
Titled L’acompanyament al centre de les polítiques locals de joventut (Mentoring at the local policies centres for young people) and written by members of the Chair of Youth Salvador Avià, Paz Viguer and Jonatan Ruiz.
This article provides a new perspective to the local policies involving young people and puts socio-educational mentoring at the centre. The approach goes beyond offering services and activites: it's about shining the spotlight on young people and stablishing educational links to help their personal, social and community development.
The authors state that mentoring is a transforming paradigm that allows overcoming the limitations of the traditional need-service model. Instead of taking an assistance and lacking perspectivo on young people, the new paradigm sees them as active agents of ther rights and capable of participating in the definition of policies that affect them.
Through examples and strategies, the article display how city halls and communities can take on a key role for the paradigm change. The proposal is to deploy professional mentors throughout the teritory that are capable of stablishing these socio-educational links with adolescents and young people and intervene at different levls with great significance and impact.
The publication reflects the wil of the Chair of Youth of producing and transferring knwoledge that contributes to strengthening local public policies with an innovative, educational and territory-rooted perspective.
