The Free to Choose project, financed by the DG for Justice of the European Commission, was carried out from January 2017 to July 2019 by a consortium made up of public, private and third sector entities from 5 Mediterranean countries: Cyprus , Italy, Slovenia, Portugal and Spain.

His main objective was to create a game to reduce the impact of gender stereotypes on adolescents in the school-work transition. The first year and a half of the project was dedicated to conducting research aimed at creating the game. The research team from the 5 countries was made up of 10 researchers led by the Spanish team whose PI was IUCIE professor and researcher Anna Giulia Ingellis.

The study, on the one hand, analyzed gender segregation in professional careers and in the labor market from a comparative perspective using data from the OECD and Eurostat. On the other hand, it studied a series of youth narratives about gender stereotypes linked to professions. In the field work, 90 people were involved, 45 young people and 45 key informants, through in-depth interviews and focus groups.
