THE UNIVERSITAT DE VALÈNCIA JOINS THE “UNESCO UNITWIN NETWORK FOR UNDERWATER ARCHAEOLOGY” AS AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER

The decision was taken on last 1st and 2nd June

On 1 and 2 June took place at UNESCO’s seat in Paris the UNESCO UNITWIN session to address de admission of new members in the Worldwide Network of Underwater Archaeology. It includes organisations, mainly universities, which develop training and research programmes related to Underwater Archaeology to promote its boosting and build bridges between universities, industry, governments and public entities responsible for conservation and valuation of the Underwater Cultural Heritage.

The Universitat de València, from the Department of Prehistory, Archaeology and Ancient History develops, since more than 20 years, training activities in this field, especially in the Non-official Postgraduate Studies it offers annually or every two years in collaboration with ADEIT.

Its director is the Professor of Archaeology José Pérez Ballester, who is also the director of the Master’s Degree in Archaeology, a member of the Board of the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology, as well as a member of the Scientific Committee for Follow-up the National Plan for Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage.

Doctor Carlos De Juan Fuertes, its co-director, is also a member of the Committee for Follow-up the National Plan and co-director of the excavations at the Bou Ferrer early-imperial Roman shipwreck, in Vila Joiosa.
