The Institute of Film and the Audiovisual Arts (ICAA) has created a catalogue with the best 2015 Spanish short films under the motto “Shorts from Spain”. The objective of this organisation is to promote the diffusion and presence in festivals and national and international markets of the most significant short films from the Spanish audiovisual sector.
In the appointed committee have participated members of the Coordinadora del Cortometraje Español, the Asociación de la Industria del Cortometraje and the Plataforma Nuevos Realizadores. As a main requirement they value the nominations and awards in national and international festivals such as Seminci in Valladolid, the Gaudí Awards, the Forqué Awards for the best short film and the awarded at the Alcalá de Henares Festival, among others.
In this pioneer initiative ten short films have been selected: 3/105, Bikini, El Corredor, Los Cárpatos, Muebles Aldeguer, Sangre de unicornio, Ser e voltar, Soy tan feliz, Todo un futuro juntos and Viaje a pies.
The ICAA will distribute this catalogue in DVD among the international markets and festivals in which it is present. Also, there will be screenings at the abroad Instituto Cervantes, the offices of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and those international universities where Spanish studies are offered, as well as screening tours in other countries.
The presentation of the short films “Shorts from Spain” takes place from 5 to 13 February, which coincides with the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France.
3/105
“A river. A death.” This is the plain synopsis of 3/105, one of the ten Spanish short films selected by the ICAA. Directed by Avelina Prat and Diego Opazo, this film of roughly five minutes has been screened at the Gijón International Film Festival, SGAE en Corto and the Biennale di Venezia.
Bikini
Financed through a crowdfunding campaign in Verkami, Bikini: a real history is a project directed by Óscar Bernàcer and produced by Nakamura Film. The short film tells the meeting held between Pedro Zaragoza, mayor of Benidorm, during the Franco era, and Francisco Franco. It was Zaragoza who got to introduce the bikini in the Spanish beaches during the 60s, despite the refusal of Franco.
This funny comedy in which participates the Spanish comic artist Carlos Areces had the support of different entities as the Valencian Institute of Cinematography and Benidorm’s City Hall.
El corredor
Caduco Films produces El corredor, other of the short films that has been selected in the catalogue “Shorts from Spain.” Directed by José Luis Montesinos, its synopsis is as follows: “five years ago the boss closed the company and fired 300 workers. The first day that he goes for a run he meets one of them.”
Los Cárpatos
Los Cárpatos is a drama short film produced by Tourmalet Films and directed by Daniel Remón. The plot of Los Cárpatos focuses on a conversation between Carolina and her sister Susana, when they go back home after night party. Susana, a 40 year-old housewife, married and with two children, confesses that she is trying to run away with another man.
