Open call for the 21st edition of the Documentary Film Festival of Santiago

Open call for the 21st edition of the International Documentary Film Festival of Santiago (FIDOCS), which will take place from 6 to 12 November in the capital of Chile. The call will remain open until 24 July.

20 june 2017

This year the contest of the International Documentary Film Festival of Santiago will have two changes. The first one is that there will be a new International Competition of Feature Films, addressed to films directed by foreign and Chilean directors, replacing the previous Latin American Competition of Feature Films. But, in addition, two competitive sections are added: the National Competition of Feature Films and the International Competition of Short Films 'Monsieur Guillaume', addressed to the most reflexive and avant-garde productions.

The call for FIDOCS establishes a duration limit of 30 minutes to differentiate between feature films and short films, and also specifies that the submitted films must have been completed after 1 January 2016 in order to participate in the contest.

Two sections are added in this call, like the National Competition of Feature Films and the International Competition of Short Films 'Monsieur Guillaume', for the most reflexive and avant-garde productions.

The worldwide, Latin American and national premieres that have not previously been exhibited in any other contest will have priority. In addition, all films submitted must be spoken, narrated or subtitled in Spanish. Films in other languages or without subtitles in Spanish shall attach the list of dialogues in English and send a special request to programa@fidocs.cl.

This edition will have the following awards for participants:

  • Best national feature film and director.
  • Best international feature film and director
  • Best short film and debut feature.

This is one of the most prominent festivals in Latin America and is largely responsible for the resurgence of the documentary genre in Chile. FIDOCS is not only a competition for enthusiasts of the audiovisual world, since it also has training activities. Among these activities it stands out the FIDOCS School, where the brightest students from Santiago's film and communications schools are summoned to receive private lectures given by the festival's main international guests
