What makes different the UV Master’s Degree?

The Master’s Degree in Physiology is taught since 2008 and we explain the main objectives by which it distinguishes itself form other master’s degrees in Spain

We have previously explained why to study a Master’s Degree in Physiology, but what makes different this Master’s Degree respect others taught in Spain? The Master’s Degree in Physiology of the Universitat de València is taught since 2008 in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and has completed all its places every year. Why is that? We explain here some of the highlights:

 

•    Who would choose this master’s degree?
To continue the studies with this Master’s Degree is the first option for a 58% of the recently graduated students of the Health branch. A 21% of these students come from the degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, an 18% in Biology and a 15% in Medicine. The completion rate with respect to the enrolment is a 95%.

•    What are the core areas?
The core areas and contents of the Master’s Degree are: methodology for research in physiology, cardiovascular physiology and its applications in biomedicine. Furthermore, there are many introductory contents with social demand, such as ageing, physical exercise, Alzheimer’s disease, digestive disorders, image analysis and rare diseases. The last ones have a key presence in the Master’s Degree since in the Universitat de València are being developed cutting edge researches on the called rare diseases. •    Who constitutes the professors senate?
The teaching staff is from the UV and also external. All of them are renowned scientists in their fields of research. From the Universitat de València, participate professors of the departments of Physiology, Human Anatomy and Embryology, Biochemistry and Medicine. The external senate is formed by professionals from very different backgrounds: in this Master’s Degree participate from the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre in Ageing to the Leibniz Center for Diabetes Research, Heinrich Heine University of Düsseldorlf passing through attending physicians from the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service of the Hospital La Fe, and researchers from the Príncipe Felipe Research Centre. These are just some examples of the renowned senate that forms this Master’s Degree: each year the teaching staff changes because the curriculum is continually updating to be the most adapted possible to the latest developments in Physiology. 

 

•    What makes different the Master’s Degree Final Project (TFM)?
Regarding the facilities, this Master’s Degree has at your disposal their own research laboratories and newspaper and periodicals library. The variety and the topicality are two highlights in the Master’s Degree Final Project regarding the research lines and it has a value of 15 ECTS credits. More information on the TFM available here

•    There is access to a doctorate?

This Master’s Degree is also outstanding for its research nature, a branch that many students (a 52%) want to continue and widen the Doctoral Studies. With this Master’s Degree in Physiology you obtain the direct access to the Doctorate in Physiology, thus, you have the opportunity of widening to the maximum your studies in this area, as well as of continuing the research line that started in the Master’s Degree. 

 

•    What firm or organisations collaborate with the Master’s Degree?
The partnered firms or organisations change each academic year. This year, the Cañada Blanch Foundation of Valencia collaborates directly with the Master’s Degree and through its teaching staff collaborate the Biomedical Research Centre in Rare Diseases Network, the Spanish Research Group on Free Radicals, the Biomechanical Research Group applied to Sports of the Universitat de València and the Hospital Clínico Universitario and the Hospital La Fe.

•    What profile do you get when finishing the Master’s Degree?
The professional profile when finishing the Master’s Degree is very diverse, since the physiology has application in numerous Health branches. Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, biology, physiotherapy, podiatry, veterinarian, speech therapy, optics and optometry are just one of the examples.
 

•    Which is the employment rate when finishing these studies?
The UV carried out a survey to the graduated students in this Master’s Degree in the years 2010-2012 and a 67% had a job, the 100% related with the Master’s Degree. The level of satisfaction with the employment was qualified in a 7 on 10. 


The Master’s Degree in Physiology of the UV distinguishes from the offered in Spain by the international renowned internal and external teaching staff, the variety and topicality of the research lines of the TFM (graduated students rate it with a 4,57/5), the collaboration of the teaching staff with hospitals and national and international research centres, its research nature, the own laboratories and newspaper and periodicals library and the direct access to the Doctoral Studies. The students that decide to take it can be motivated by their will of widening their training and specialisation, by their career advancement or as a step to course a Doctorate.
