The prof. Dr. H.C. mult Jürgen Basedow, LL.M. (* Hamburg, 1949) is Professor of the University of Hamburg, where he heads the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law.

Trained in Law and Sociology at the universities of Hamburg, Genoa and Pavia, he holds a PhD in Law from the University of Hamburg and a Master of Law from the Harvard Law Business School. Specializing in private international law, competition, transport and insurance, he stands out for his important work in the reform of law in Germany and the European Union.

Dr. Basedow has taught at the University of Augsburg; of its Faculty of Law he was dean. He has also been a professor at the Free University of Berlin and a visiting professor at different Italian, Dutch, British, American, Russian and Chinese universities.

Member of numerous Academies and Governmental Committees, he has been honored with honorary doctorates by several universities, with the Otto Hahn Medal of the Max Planck Society and the Kurt Siemers Award, among other honors.

Dr. Basedow maintains a close collaborative relationship with the University of Valencia, and has participated in various activities organized by its Faculty of Law.
