Lluís Santaló was born in Girona, 9 October 1911.
When he was 16 he goes to Madrid for studying. In the Faculty of Mathematics he has professor who would have a decisive influence on him, mainly Julio Rey Pastor and Esteve Terrades. He graduated in 1934, and helped by Rey Pastor, he goes to Hamburg to work with W. Blaschke in geometric probability, originating this way what will be called Integral Geometry.
In 1936 he publishes his doctoral thesis.
Lluís Antoni Santaló i Sors, has been the greatest exponent in Integral Geometry, in addition, he was a great pedagogue and scientific disseminator, he was a person of great human value, with over 250 publications.
