Biographical outline:

Carme Valls Llobet (Barcelona, ​​1945) is director of the program 'Women, Health and Quality of Life' at the Center for Analysis and Health Programs (CAPS), a non-governmental scientific organization of which she is vice-president.

Bachelor and Doctor in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona, ​​she participated in the founding of the Democratic Student Union of that university, and worked in the university branch of the Federal Socialist Force group until 1968.

Professor of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona, ​​her scientific specialty has been internal medicine and endocrinology, being a pioneer in Spain in proposing medical research on the differences in mortality and morbidity between men and women. She was also part of an international movement to promote the inclusion of women in clinical trials and the scientific rigor applied to the most common problems of women.

A committed woman, a fighter for equality and a promoter of medicine from a gender perspective, she was a deputy in the Parliament of Catalonia in the sixth legislature (1999-2003) for the Party of Socialists of Catalonia - Citizens for Change. She has also chaired the Catalunya Segle XXI Foundation.

Her research activity is collected in numerous publications, both scientific and medical dissemination books, receiving the prize for good practices of non-sexist communication granted by the Association of Women Journalists of Catalonia.
