Biographical outline:

Andreu Alfaro Hernández (Valencia 1929 - Rocafort 2012) was a self-taught artist who began his exhibition activity in 1957, forming part of the Grup Parpalló between 1959 and 1961.

Inspired by authors such as Constantin Brancusi, Julio González and Jorge Oteiza, Alfaro's sculpture is framed within the constructivist tradition by the use of industrial materials and techniques at the service of an extremely refined formal style.

Characterized by abstract and minimalist geometries of steel and aluminum and by marble columns that play with light, the module, the series and the color, its production has been prolific reaching over two thousand sculptures that have been exhibited on numerous occasions in the Venice Biennial and in the fairs of Cologne, Düsseldorf, Basel, Paris and Madrid, among others.

The public art created by Andreu Alfaro has spread throughout the world, highlighting works built on a large scale with a vocation to integrate public spaces as collective monuments; some examples would be the Puerta de la Ilustración in Madrid, the Millennium in Barcelona, the columns of the Bellaterra Campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Adam and Eve of the University of Valencia.

National Prize of Plastic Arts, Premi d'Honor Jaume I, Creu de Sant Jordi of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Premi Alfons Roig of the Diputació de València and Prize of Urbanism, Architecture and Public Works of the Madrid City Council, Andreu Alfaro was recognized by his artistic career and his civic commitment
