To ensure the quality of university degrees is one of the essential elements of the EHEA. To achieve it, it is indispensable, first, to establish an Internal Quality Assurance System (SGIG), which makes easier the review, monitoring and improvement by the institution of the degrees offered. Through this system, the university collects and analyses periodically all relevant information and promotes improvement actions, thus assuming the major role that these processes should have.
And, in second place, the degrees must undergo external evaluations, which supervise the effective implementation of teachings and report to society the quality of the same. According to the RD 1393/2007, amended by the RD 861/2010, this external guarantee is carried out by three processes: verification, which evaluates the design of the curriculum of a new degree, the monitoring, which analyses regularly if the implementation of the degree is carried out properly and renewal of accreditation, stage in which is checked if the project of the verified curriculum has been developed successfully.
