Encuentros con la maleta de la ciencia is a project of the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i) of the Universitat de València based on the book "La maleta de la ciencia”. The book was published in 2010 by Editorial Escalón and it was written by Enric Ramiro, who normally collaborates with UCC+i. The first phase of the project was co-financed by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) in 2015. The idea was recognised, alongside the project “Andalucía, mejor con ciencia" of Descubre Foundation, as the best Spanish project of scientific dissemination by COMCIRED 2015. COMCIRED is a forum of debate and training for the scientific disseminators of Spanish scientific culture units.

The book covers 60 experiments and is intended for people of any age who work with pre-school and primary school education contents.  In addition, the book also includes different resources about scientific dissemination, advice and chosen bibliographies.

The basic project was conducted by the UCC in 2015 and 2016. It built 50 wooden suitcases that contained the necessary elements to carry out 20 experiments (10 of air and 10 of water), their corresponding fact sheets and a sample of the book "La Maleta de la Ciencia".

The main objective of the project was materialising a suitcase of science as a tool for introducing and teaching scientific culture. Apart from making suitcases, the project has included different training sessions and a contest for children.

There is a waiting list of schools that have applied for the suitcase and the teaching sessions. As a result the UCC+i will organise a new edition of the project. "Encuentros con la maleta de la ciencia” is an improve proposal. On the one hand, we increase the number of training sessions in collaboration with other institutions and associations. On the other hand, we want to make more suitcases in order to distribute them to schools and other entities.

This project aims to awake the scientific vocations, increase the scientific culture of young people, contribute to the dissemination of science in the society and offer a series of resources and experimentation techniques. La Maleta de la Ciencia aims to increase the interest and recognition of the general public towards science.
