Rules of the 32nd European Scientific Dissemination Award “Estudi General” 2026

The Universitat de València and the Ajuntament d’Alzira announce the 32nd European Scientific Dissemination Award “Estudi General”, in collaboration with Edicions Bromera, with the aim of encouraging the creation and dissemination of works which, using accessible language, bring interesting aspects of the various branches of knowledge closer to the general public, and particularly to pre-university students.

This call is included within the 2026 Strategic Subsidy Plan (PESS), conceived as a planning instrument for subsidies in accordance with the general policy defined by the institution’s governing bodies. Specifically, the 32nd European Scientific Dissemination Award “Estudi General” falls within objective VI01 (Promoting quality research and its projection into society), under line 125: Scientific dissemination awards.

1. PURPOSE AND ELIGIBILITY

1.1 Popular science and technology dissemination essays written in Valencian or any other variety of this language, Spanish, English or French may be submitted for this award. The works must have a length between 250,000 and 300,000 characters (including spaces). Any additional materials included in the text must be original, royalty-free, or include the corresponding reproduction permissions.

1.2 Minors are excluded from this call.

1.3 Previous winners of this award are excluded from this call.

1.4 The following texts are excluded from this call:

* Bachelor’s degree final projects
* Master’s degree final projects
* Doctoral theses
* Scientific articles

2. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS

 2.1 An extract of this call will be published in the Official Gazette of the Valencian Government (Diari Oficial de la Generalitat Valenciana).

2.2 Works should preferably be submitted through the electronic office of the Universitat de València
([UV Electronic Office](http://webges.uv.es/uvEntreuWeb?utm_source=chatgpt.com)).

A guidance document for submitting works through the electronic office will be published on the website of the Unitat de Cultura Científica i de la Innovació of the Universitat de València
([Unitat de Cultura Científica i de la Innovació](https://www.uv.es/cdciencia?utm_source=chatgpt.com)).

 2.3 Works may also be submitted in paper format to the General Registry of the Universitat de València (Av. Blasco Ibáñez 13, 46010 Valencia), addressed to the Unitat de Cultura Científica i de la Innovació of the Universitat de València. In this case, a digital copy must also be attached.

The cover page must include the statement: “Submission to the European Scientific Dissemination Award ‘Estudi General’ 2026”, together with the title, the author’s name, address, telephone number and email address.

Works may also be submitted under a pseudonym, in which case the corresponding sealed identification envelope (“plica”) must be attached.

Likewise, works may be submitted through any official registry provided for in Article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of 1 October, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.

2.4 Submitted works must be original, unpublished, and must not have won any other competition. The jury will evaluate the works anonymously; therefore, neither the text nor the images may contain any reference to authorship.

3. DEADLINES

3.1 Works may be submitted from the day following the publication of the extract of the resolution announcing this award in the Official Gazette of the Valencian Government.

 3.2 The deadline for submission of originals is 15 September 2026.

 3.3 Once the submission period has ended, the list of submitted works will be published on the official notice board of the Universitat de València

and on the website of the Unitat de Cultura Científica i de la Innovació
([Unitat de Cultura Científica i de la Innovació](https://www.uv.es/cdciencia?utm_source=chatgpt.com)), for a period of 10 days to allow for possible appeals. Appeals must be submitted through the electronic office of the Universitat de València
([UV Electronic Office](http://webges.uv.es/uvEntreuWeb?utm_source=chatgpt.com)).

After this period and once any appeals have been resolved, the final lists will be published.

3.4 Non-winning originals submitted in printed format may be collected from 7 December 2026 onwards at the Unitat de Cultura Científica i de la Innovació of the Universitat de València (Av. Blasco Ibáñez 13, 46010 Valencia).

4. FINANCIAL ENDOWMENT

4.1 The “Estudi General” Award consists of €12,000.00. The award also includes, without any additional compensation, the publication of the winning work in an edition of at least 2,000 copies in Valencian and, where appropriate, 2,000 copies in Spanish. These editions shall be considered payment for copyright royalties, and the legally established tax withholdings shall apply.

4.2 This award is compatible with any other subsidy or financial aid.

4.3 The processing and administration of this procedure shall be carried out by the Unitat de Cultura Científica i de la Innovació of the Universitat de València.

4.4 The award amount shall be charged to Chapter IV of the 2026 budget of the Universitat de València, budget line 6680000000 of the Unitat de Cultura Científica i de la Innovació – Servei de Màrqueting i Comunicació.

5. JURY AND ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

5.1 The jury shall be composed of:

* Carlos Javier López Olano, who shall act as chair;
* Carolina Moreno;
* José Nicanor Alonso;
* Miguel Ángel Mirás;
* Mariam Tórtola;
* Estrella Durá.

5.2 If any jury member identifies a reason for abstention, they must decline participation, without prejudice to any liabilities arising otherwise.

5.3 In order to ensure an objective assessment of the works, the jury shall consider the following criteria:

* Scientific interest and coherence: up to 3 points
* Creativity and originality: up to 3 points
* Clarity of presentation and text structure: up to 3 points
* Correct use of syntax and spelling rules: up to 1 point

5.4 The award procedure shall follow a competitive selection process, in accordance with Section 1 of Chapter II of Title X of Valencian Law 1/2015 on Public Finance, the Instrumental Public Sector and Subsidies.

The jury shall follow a successive voting procedure until a majority vote is obtained in favour of a specific work, which shall be declared the winner.

However, if the jury considers that none of the submitted works reaches the minimum quality required for publication and no work obtains a minimum score of 8 points, the award may be declared void.

The prize amount may not be divided under any circumstances.

6. AWARD CEREMONY

The award shall be presented on the same day as the other “Ciutat d’Alzira” literary awards, on the evening of 6 November 2026. In addition to the monetary prize, the winners shall receive the trophy symbolising the Ciutat d’Alzira Literary Awards.

7. PUBLICATION

Edicions Bromera and the Publications Service of the Universitat de València shall jointly publish the winning book, in Valencian, within the “Sense Fronteres” collection.

Likewise, the aforementioned publishers shall have a preferential option, for a period of one month, to decide on the publication of non-winning works, should the jury so recommend.

The Publications Service of the Universitat de València shall also have preferential rights for publication in other languages and shall promote their translation.

8. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS

8.1 Submission of applications implies full acceptance of these rules and of all resulting rights and obligations. Any matters not provided for in these rules shall be resolved by the jury at its sole discretion.

8.2 The winning author undertakes to participate as a member of the jury in the following edition, as an obligation deriving from the award, including the remuneration corresponding to such participation.

9. DECISION

9.1 In view of the jury’s proposal, the Rector of the Universitat de València shall issue the final decision. This shall take place within a maximum period of six months from the publication of the extract of the call in the Official Gazette of the Valencian Government.

9.2 This decision, which exhausts the administrative route, may be challenged by means of an optional appeal for reconsideration within one month from the day following its notification or publication before the same body that issued it, or directly by means of an administrative judicial appeal before the courts of the Valencian Community within two months from the day following its publication.

9.3 The granting of these awards shall be governed by these rules and, subsidiarily, by Valencian Law 1/2015 of 6 February on Public Finance, the Instrumental Public Sector and Subsidies, and Law 39/2015 of 1 October on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.

10. PROCESSING OF PERSONAL DATA

10.2 Purpose and Legal Basis

In compliance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons regarding the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, the personal data provided in this process shall be incorporated into the corresponding information systems of the Universitat de València for the purpose of managing and processing participation applications in accordance with Law 38/2003 of 17 November, General Subsidies Law.

10.3 Origin of the Data

The Universitat de València shall only process the data provided by the applicant.

10.4 Recipients of Personal Data

Within the framework of participation in the award, strictly necessary data shall be transferred in the following cases and for the following purposes:

* To financial institutions for payment of the award amount.
* Publication of the award decision on the official notice board of the Universitat de València and, for informational purposes, on websites hosted under the official domain of the Universitat de València.
* Publication of beneficiaries, award amounts and purposes on the transparency portal of the Universitat de València
  ([UV Transparency Portal](https://www.uv.es/transparencia?utm_source=chatgpt.com)), in compliance with Article 23 of Valencian Law 1/2022 on Transparency and Good Governance.
* Publication in the National Subsidies Database (BDNS), in compliance with Article 20 of Law 38/2003 of 17 November, General Subsidies Law.

10.5 Data Retention Period

Data shall be retained and, where appropriate, deleted according to the following criteria:

* For non-awarded participants, data shall be retained for the periods established by administrative legislation to safeguard participants’ rights.
* For awarded participants, data shall be retained throughout the management period of the award and for accreditation and certification purposes.

10.6 Rights

Individuals providing data have the right to request access to their personal data, rectification or erasure, restriction of processing, and data portability.

Interested persons may exercise these rights by sending an email to [cdciencia@uv.es](mailto:cdciencia@uv.es) from official Universitat de València email addresses, or by submitting a written request accompanied by a copy of an identity document and, where appropriate, supporting documentation, addressed to the Data Protection Delegate of the Universitat de València.

10.7 Right to Lodge a Complaint

The Universitat de València, its foundations and associated entities comply with Spanish data protection regulations and the GDPR. An email address ([lopd@uv.es](mailto:lopd@uv.es)) is available for information, suggestions, requests concerning data protection rights and amicable dispute resolution, without prejudice to the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority.
