Next Wednesday, June 17 at 7 p.m., an online talk has been organised with the author of the book Clar i ras: parlem del càncer (‘Plain and simple: let’s talk about cancer’) (Vincle, 2020) Àngels Royo where she discusses the present and future of oncology. Àngels Royo Peiró holds a bachelor’s degree in Medicine and is a specialist in Science History and Scientific Communication as well as in Pharmaceutical Oncology and Emotional Intelligence, and is completing her PhD in Historical and Social Studies on Science, Medicine and Scientific Communication.

In the talk the oncologist Àngels Royo will answer all the questions that cancer raises, speaking clearly, directly and very didactically about what cancer is, how it originates and its treatments, she will explain why more and more people in the world suffer from it, the daily life of a patient, how it affects families, she will talk about miracle therapies and the path that research leads, among other topics.

Àngels Royo intends with this talk and her informative book to break the distances, talk about cancer, and make it understandable to most people. The face-to-face talk was cancelled in March at the Espai Ciència at the October Centre for Contemporary Culture (OCCC) and is now taken back telematically from the Blackboard Collaborate videoconference page.

The program of activities of the Espai Ciència of the OCCC has the collaboration of the Institute of Catalan Studies, Acció Cultural del País Valencià, the CSIC, the Fan Set bookstore and the journal Mètode.

Conversations at the Espai Ciència is a project aimed at scientific research led by journalist Reis Juan who conducts a “radio program without radio” with the technical support of Pepe Moreno. It is a project of the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the University of Valencia, which has the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
