The Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the University of Valencia has opened today, Monday and until July 9, registration for the scientific communication workshop organised by the institution within the framework of the Mediterranean Researchers Night (MEDNIGHT). Taught online by the journalist and science communicator Michele Catanzaro between July 19 and 22, it will have an unlimited registration in the talk part and limited to 40 people in the practical part.
The objective of the workshop is to train researchers on the dissemination of science and familiarise them with good practices in scientific communication, especially the media. It is aimed at people who are starting their research career and, in general, at anyone interested in scientific dissemination. For this reason, practical advice will be given on how to transmit effective communication, informational coverage in the media will be examined, and a scientific text will be written and commented on.
The workshop will take place between July 19 and 22. The part in which Catanzaro will cover science in the media (a talk with questions and answers) and practical advice on how to write an effective scientific communication text plus an analysis of an example, will be open to an unlimited extent. In the second part (collective reading and analysis of an exemplary text, and writing a text, in groups, and discussing the results) enrolment will be limited to 40 people.
Michele Catanzaro (Rome, 1979) lives in Barcelona. Graduated from the Sapienza University of Rome and a PhD in Physics from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, since 2001 he works as a freelance. He writes primarily on science, environment, health, technology, science policy, and academic freedom and works in various international media outlets, as well as being a co-author of books and documentaries. He has received several awards in the field of scientific dissemination, including the King of Spain International Journalism Award for his investigation into the case of the judicial error of Óscar Sánchez; or the 2016 European Science Writer of the Year award for his research in forensic phonetics, among others.
