Representatives of the Universitat de València, the Universitat Politècnica de Valencia and the delegation from the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) in the Valencian Community have recently participated in a workshop organised by the General Secretariat of Universities in order to analyse their results, share a selection of good practices and discuss issues about the future of the Campuses of International Excellence (CIE), a programme promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport since 2009.
Around 80 managers and technical representatives of the 32 Spanish CIEs met in Madrid in order to propose new strategies that enable the continuation of this initiative, especially in a context of scarce public funds for its financing.
The General Secretariat of Universities organised this workshop, where a critical reflection on the development of the campuses of excellence was also performed. Specifically, the issues raised during the day were: concept and model of the CIEs, key and success factors, strategic pillars and future prospects. The representatives of VLC/CAMPUS at the meeting were the Vice-Principal for Campus and Planning, Clara Martínez, the delegate of the principal for the Campus of International Excellence, Rafael García, regarding the Universitat de València; José Pío Beltrán, delegate of CSIC in the Valencian Community, and Carlos Ripoll, director of VLC/CAMPUS area in the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia.
VLC/CAMPUS was selected by the Ministry of Education to present, as a good practice for internationalisation, the project California Spain Campus Initiative, which aims is to promote and give value to the agreement signed by the Campus of Excellence Andalucía-TECH and VLC/CAMPUS with the University of California at Berkeley.
The future prospects of the CIE’s were defined in several areas of work such as governance, funding and the strategic pillars for its maintenance.
