Teaching is the most favoured and usual professional field for graduates in Classical Philology. This, while true, is at the same time a social handicap when it comes to proposing a wider range of other existing professional opportunities for our graduates.

Besides gaining knowledge and training in the professional areas related to these studies (i.e., teaching and research in Greek and Latin languages and cultures), students acquire skills to pursue a career in the publishing industry, media and advertising (as proofreaders or content creators), as well as to work in any fields related to the dissemination of culture, history and literature. In this regard, this BA programme endows graduates with the required competencies to work in the field of cultural heritage management, archives, libraries, museums and centres for historical documentation. This is due to the methodologies, the mastery of languages and ICT-related skills, and the ability to integrate in multidisciplinary teams. On the other hand, the BA degree in Classical Philology can be a gateway to the world of computational linguistics, given the broad linguistic training offered to students. Finally, the training in mythology and ancient literatures opens up the possibility of entering the world of literary creation and playwriting.

Professional training opportunities in this BA programme are shown in the elective course Work Placement (4th year, 2nd term), when students are close to graduation and have the chance to gain first-hand experience in the fields above.

In summary, the competencies and skills acquired in the BA Degree in Classical Philology qualify students for the professional field of teaching (traditionally the most widespread) and render our graduates as highly valued in other work and professional fields such as the publishing world, the media, advertising and cultural management in general.
