On October 18th and 19th, the largest and most classic podcasting event in Spain is coming.
The meeting will take place at the School of Philology, Translation and Communication of the University of Valencia. Organized by the UV research group “The podcast as an emerging journalistic phenomenon. Innovation in radio stories and formats” (INNOCAST), https://www.uv.es/uvweb/servei-investigacio/ca/grups-investigacio/grup-1285949714098.html?p2=GIUV2022-528 in collaboration with the Asociación Podcast. In person and online.
In the year that marks a century since the first radio broadcast in Spain, various questions are raised about the medium and its evolution in a media ecosystem marked by hyperconnectivity, smart devices and Artificial Intelligence. At the JPOD 2024 congress, we will address issues related to the current state of radio and its evolution, focusing on the podcast format as a key format. Thus, we seek to delve deeper into the growing popularity of podcasts and their impact from an interdisciplinary perspective. To this end, the following thematic lines are proposed:
Thematic lines:
- Educommunication and podcasts: We seek to analyze how podcasts are being used as educational tools. Work on teaching methodologies, the role of podcasts in active and collaborative learning, innovative teaching strategies and the development of communication skills in students and case studies, among others, will be valued.
- Podcasts and the University: This thematic line invites you to explore the use of podcasts by universities. Many educational institutions are implementing podcasts as part of their communication strategy and as an evolution of university radio. Research is proposed on the production of university podcasts, transmedia communication strategies, case studies, the impact of university podcasts on university communication, among others.
- Podcasts and future challenges: Papers that address how podcasts as a format adapt to technological and social changes will be accepted. The proposed topics are the evolution of the podcast format, monetization, interactivity, audiences, and the impact of artificial intelligence and big data on the production and consumption of podcasts, among others.
- History and evolution of radio: This thematic line focuses on the historical trajectory of radio from its beginnings to the present. Studies on historical milestones, the transformation of content, convergence with new media and the analysis of radio as a means of communication in different sociocultural contexts, among others, are accepted.
The congress will also be the setting for the inauguration of #EspaiPodcastUV, a radio studio at the University of Valencia dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of podcasting, and the exhibition ‘El podcast #ElMur, una historia de la nostra memòria democràtica’, curated by Carlos López Olano and Eduardo Torres, will be held.
The event will culminate with the awards ceremony of the Podcast Association Awards, where the prominent journalist Iñaki Gabilondo will receive the award ‘Una vida de audio’ in recognition of his career.
