Degree in Information and Documentation: Opening career paths in a digital world

Various experts on Information and Documentation met to discuss the many job opportunities for graduates in this degree in the recent Employment Forum of the Faculty of Geography and History of the UV.

The panel discussion was moderated by Juan Carlos Valderrama, full-time university professor of Information and Documentation. Participants included María José Badenas, president of the Archivists and Document Managers Associations; Pilar Bueno, Member of the Services of the Official Association of Librarians and Documentarists of the Valencian Community; Javier Marco, technician in Transmedia Publishing at the Web and Marketing Unit of the Universitat de València; Mayte López, head of the Documentation Service of the Valencian Anti-fraud Agency (AVAF); Nicolás Zornoza, technician in Digital Transformation, Competitive and Strategic Intelligence; and Joseph Quimbiamba, People technician at AIMPLAS (Technological Institute of Plastics). Adolfo Alonso, professor in the Department of History of Science and Documentation, and Gema Capilla, coordinator of the Degree in Information and Documentation, also collaborated. 

Graduates in Information and Documentation have skills in information management, planning, document production processes, technological skills, data interpretation, communication, marketing, organisation, teamwork, management, leadership... The participants in the colloquium agreed that this is a profession with a great future, as any company needs a data analyst, someone who filters, selects and processes all the information in this sea of data, in this Big Data, in which some companies feel lost.  

A graduate in Information and Documentation can work as a business intelligence, archivist, content curator, librarian, cataloguer, community manager, consultant, digitiser, documentarist, book editor, online positioning specialist, usability expert, cultural manager, digital publications manager, researcher, webmaster... in short, the Degree in Information and Documentation opens the door to a wide range of job opportunities, with more than 20 different professional roles available to its graduates. 

In an increasingly digitalised work context and with the growing use of artificial intelligence, graduates in Information and Documentation play a fundamental role in helping companies to efficiently manage information and take advantage of the potential of artificial intelligence.
