Why studying UV Degree in Journalism

The Bachelor's Degree in Journalism is designed to provide a broad theoretical and practical training in multimedia: press, radio, TV and internet. These studies are based on social sciences (sociology, law, economics, political science) and the use of information and communication technologies (ICT).

This degree offers students a multi-specialisation in journalism in society, politics, culture, economics, science and technology. Learning is based on a reflective, critical and experimental combination, complemented by a compulsory internship in companies and the media. The capacity for personal initiative, together with a good attitude towards working in a team are also necessary for successful completion of this degree.

Preliminary training for the Bachelor's degree in Journalism

Although there are no prerequisites for admission to the Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, it is considered appropriate for new students to have prior training that will enable them to acquire knowledge, competences and skills directly related to their studies. Also values such as curiosity and knowledge of current affairs.

Thus, if the objectives of the degree are taken into consideration, it is recommended that they possess the following skills or are in a predisposition to acquire them:

  • Motivation for training in Science and willingness to learn about social policies that favour the welfare of citizens.
  • Interest in the prevention of and response to social problems, especially those affecting the rights of the weakest and most discriminated people.
  • Ability to respect the diversity of people under conditions of equality.
  • Commitment to the values of social justice and social welfare.
  • Responsible conduct with the ethical and deontological principles of the profession, such as respect for the truth and honesty when collecting and interpreting information.
  • Willingness to search for, select, interpret and analyse texts and documents.
Foreign language recognition

In addition to the consolidation of this multimedia training, obtaining the Bachelor's Degree in Journalism requires accreditation of communicative competence in a foreign language at level B1. The recognition of this level will be carried out in the final year and by means of one of these two options:

  1. Providing a certificate of attainment of level B1, in accordance with the University of Valencia's L2 Language Accreditation Equivalence Table (ACGUV 156/2018, of 10 July).
  2. In the specific case of English language, passing the optional subject of the syllabus 'Professional English for Journalists'.

  • From general and specialised information writer in news agencies, press, radio, television and digital media, to producer, editor and responsible for the news services and programmes of a media outlet.
  • Photojournalist and/or photojournalist
  • Presenter of audio-visual content.
  • Specialised content disseminator.
  • From editor in a communication office to head of corporate communication management in private companies, public institutions and non-profit organisations.
  • Manager of web portals and multimedia platforms.
  • In the field of digital marketing, you can assume the tasks of content writer in conventional media, as well as product manager, social media strategist, community management and SEO technician for marketing companies.
  • Documentation and writing tasks in audiovisual productions and fiction and non-fiction companies.
  • Communication consultant and/or advisor.
  • Research and/or teaching staff in journalism, communication and ICT at university level.
  • Teaching staff in secondary school subjects related to information, communication and ICT
