In the lab, you will find all the necessary material to carry out several experiments.
This material shall be available for many different experiments and will be used throughout the years. Additionally, the lab space is shared with many other people who are also developing their work. For this reason, there is a set of rules which must be respected at any lab and which is detailed below:

  • It is forbidden to eat or drink.
  • The work table has to be tidied. On the table, you can have a lab notebook but never your bag. At the end, the table has to be left as it was found: with all the material dismantled and organised and the working space has to be clean.
  • Students are responsible for the conservation and good usage of the material. At the beginning of an experiment, students must check that all material is complete and in good condition. On the contrary, professors will be notified. Likewise, professors must be notified in case of accident or breaking of materials as well as when replacement is necessary.
  • The lab’s schedule, although extensive, is limited. This implies that we have to make the most of it. You have to know the experiment which is to be carried and you have to read the practice’s guidelines in advance. This grants that you know both the phenomenon to be studied and the technique used.
  • You shall follow the instructions given in the practice’s guidelines faithfully. Any doubt which may rise shall be consulted with the professor while the practice is being carried out.
  • Before using a machine whose operation is unknown, the use instructions shall be read faithfully. If they are not available, ask the teacher for them.
  • Before measuring, it is important to think on the measurements to be done and the best way to make them. It is important to always note the machine’s sensitiveness, because flow measurements are calculated from that point.
  • In general, practices which include electrical circuits shall be checked by the teacher before they are turned on.
  • In any electric assembly, all conductors have to make contact using bananas except when the terminal has a special form and does not allow it. Likewise, you have to avoid conducting nuts, for which you just have to introduce the two conducting nuts in a same connection banana to one of the circuit’s machines.
  • Using water near power supplies or electric circuits can be dangerous. If water is spilled over an electric circuit, the former shall be rapidly disconnected from the electric supply -but always with dry hands- before drying out the circuit itself.
  • The use of Bunsen burner requires special attention. They will be left lit the necessary time and the gas key will be turned off right after finishing its use.
  • Flammable substances shall not be placed near the flames, electrical resistances or elements with a high temperature.
  • Cutting utilities and tools -such as a cutter or mincers- shall be used making special attention, specially to those which have a high temperature and which, due to its design, can pinch fingers. The professor has to be notified of any accident.
  • The elec
