Sonsoles Riscos, a student at our Faculty enrolled in the 4th year of the Double Degree in Physics and Mathematics, has been selected, along with 117 other students from 25 institutions worldwide, to represent the APS at the University of Valencia, strengthen the physics community on campus, and serve as a bridge between students and the APS through a successful student leadership program.

The American Physical Society (APS) Student Ambassador Program is an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students worldwide to represent the APS at their home institutions and connect the community around them with APS resources.

As part of this program, Sonsoles will be responsible for advocating for APS interests at the University of Valencia, sharing information and resources, as well as representing the APS in public settings and at APS meetings. She is also tasked with connecting and strengthening the global network of physicists to build an inclusive physics community. With these goals, the APS Student Ambassador Program offers exclusive events and a leadership opportunity that will undoubtedly provide her with excellent experience and professional training.

Sonsoles is an active student at the University of Valencia, participating in the “Entreiguals” program, serving as the president of the Student Delegation of the RSEF Group in Valencia, and also playing the violin in the University Orchestra. She has also been part of the organizing committee for PLANCKS 2025 in Barcelona — an international theoretical physics competition for university students, which in this edition featured Anne L’Huillier, the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics laureate, as a keynote speaker — the 2024 National Meeting of Physics Students (ENEF) in Granada, and is currently collaborating in organizing ENEF 2025 in Bilbao. She was chosen from a large number of applicants because she stood out for her enthusiasm, thoughtfulness, and commitment to the scientific community and the dissemination of physics in particular.

We are proud and congratulate our student, Sonsoles Riscos, wishing her extraordinary success in achieving such important and demanding goals.
