The fifth edition of the Erasmus Summer School in Physics (E3F), which this year was entitled "From Earth to the Edge of the Universe", took place from 4 to 8 September in the "Lise Meitner" Hall

On this occasion, the E3F was organised in collaboration with the universities of Jyväskylä (Finland), Johannes Gutenberg in Mainz (Germany), and Palermo (Italy), and was funded by the ERASMUS+ programme as one of its BIP (Blended Intensive Programme) activities for the 2022/23 academic year.

Throughout the five days, the School offered conferences, round tables and various recreational and educational activities in an inclusive and participatory environment. In this edition, the programme included invited lectures in the fields of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Earth Physics and Thermodynamics, with topics as varied as the evolution of stars and the structure of the Sun, the biophysical modelling of cell membranes, and the observation of the Earth from space for the study of marine pollution. There was also a mini-course on Artificial Intelligence, which included a presentation on ethical issues and risks of the use of this type of techniques in different areas of everyday life.

There were also contributions on other Physics topics of a more transversal nature, such as gender (in)equality in Physics, stress management in university students, the use of experiments with everyday objects as a didactic method in Physics, or the relationship between Physics and Music (which included an excellent concert by the Iturbi Out of Context Quintet chamber group). The different activities and talks were given by young researchers from our faculty and guest lecturers. Participants in the School were also able to present, in most cases for the first time, their own contributions in the form of talks and posters in the context of a scientific meeting. The School also included two round tables on employability and Erasmus mobility.

In addition to its scientific content, the School has allowed us to make our Faculty known as a potential Erasmus destination, and to establish contacts between physics students from different universities.

The number of students exceeded 80, more than 50 of them as BIP students (most of them from the University of Valencia, 9 from Palermo, 5 from Mainz, 4 from Jyväskylä and 1 from Lisbon). The rest of the participants came from other Spanish universities (eleven students from the universities of Murcia, Barcelona, Alicante, and Politècnica de València) and high schools in our area (fifteen students). The number of professors exceeded twenty, several of them coming from BIP partner universities.

The excellent work of the Organising Committee has been fundamental to the success of the School, which has been a highly gratifying experience that we hope to be able to maintain in future years with the same level of quality and participation.
