Physics is an experimental science that studies the natural world in terms of aspects related to energy and matter interactions. Practically every technology surrounding us in our everyday lives is governed by the principles of physics (from medical diagnosis techniques to GPS systems or energy production methods). The Degree in Physics aims to provide a solid training based on physical phenomena and the laws and models that explain them, providing familiarity with the language of mathematics, the experimental method, sophisticated instrumentation and computational methods. It also provides an introduction to various leading basic and applied research fields. These studies ensure that degree holders are versatile professionals with the skills needed to resolve multidisciplinary problems in the scientific and technological fields.
The theoretical subject areas include practical problem-solving classes in small groups of students that make studying and understanding the subject areas easier and also contribute towards the student’s overall assessment.
Laboratory work is a fundamental part of the degree because it allows students to become familiar with the techniques used for measurement and analysis of data and with instrumentation. In experimental laboratories students work in pairs, in groups of sixteen students.
The computer and computational subject areas also include practical sessions in computer rooms in small groups. Within the optional subject areas, students can carry out external internships (6 credits), which will allow them to get closer to the multiple professional fields within physics.
Physics-related professions are regulated within the technical and experimental sciences sector. The legislation acknowledges skills in a wide variety of work sectors.
