The López Piñero Institute for the History of Medicine and Science (joint centre of the University of Valencia and the CSIC), based at the Palau de Cerveró, hosts on 21 March, at 18:00, a round-table discussion on the occasion of the World Down Syndrome Day.
Moreover, the documentary S. D. Sin Diferencias, by artist Paloma Briz, will be screened during the round-table discussion. It arose from the necessity to bring the reality of Down syndrome closer to society. Most people are not acquainted with the world of people with Down syndrome. They have a very confused idea about their capabilities and what they can achieve with appropriate stimulation and education. The video shows the opinions of people who are familiar with Down Syndrome, of parents or siblings of children with Down syndrome or of family members or professionals who work with them daily. The author has used the statements of these people to create this audiovisual documentary.
