SCALE AND STRING: SCIENCE, PLACE AND HISTORY

Is science local, global or universal? Are these qualities contradictory or can they be combined? What differentiates a local, national, global or universal history? Do they have different objects, approaches, sources or techniques? Are histories of science distinct to other local or global histories? This seminar series presents a situated reflection on the problem of scales in history of science that focuses on its theoretical and practical definition, and its methodological, professional and civic challenges.
