IRTIC coordinates a CEF funded Project for supporting six eDelivery EDI providers (Electronic Data Interchange) to adapt their Access Points to the requirements established in the eIDAS Regulation on electronic identification and fiduciary services.
The AS4EDI Consortium aims to promote the use of eDelivery DSI (Digital Service Infrastructure) amongst private and public entities by integrating the AS4 messaging protocol and their respective Service Metadata Publishers in six certified PEPPOL Access Points from different Member States.
This implementation covers the transition to the eDelivery profile AS2 to the AS4 as well as the update of its SMP Metadata Publisher. Therefore, users and clients will continue using the PEPPOL network using the AS4 profile.
In the Consortium participate six EDI providers (Electronic Data Interchange) and, thanks to the action, they will be able to update their Access Points (AP) to comply with the requirements established in the eIDAS Regulation on electronic identification and fiduciary services.
Benefits of the AS4 protocol
The European Union promotes the use of AS4 and its implementation as it introduces some improvements. Actually, along 2019 AS4 will be compulsory for any entity working in Europe that requires electronic cross-border document interchange.
This new communications protocol offers users and entities greater efficiency in transmissions, ans higher levels of security thanks to encryption systems. In addition, it allows the implementation of digital authentication systems, which ensures the identity of the issuer and the traceability of emissions, among other benefits.
