The Science Meets Regions Comunitat Valenciana 2023: Green Transition and Sustainability programme will select around 12 pairings of one person from the science field and one person from the policy field to foster tangible, effective and sustainable collaborations over time and to advance the challenges posed by the green transition in the Valencian Community. Researchers working in this area can apply to participate until 8 February and those selected will receive training in scientific consultancy.

This is an initiative led by the state-wide association Science in Parliament (CeeP) in collaboration with the Network of Valencian Universities for the promotion of Research, Development and Innovation (RUVID), of which the University of Valencia (UV) is a member. Doctor Cristina Portalés, member of the board of CeeP, Ramón y Cajal researcher and member of the ARTEC group of the Institute on Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC) of the UV represents the university during the management of the project, which includes the communication and selection process.

This is the first time that an activity of this kind has been held in the Valencian Community. Researchers working on topics related to Green Transition and Sustainability, including social sciences, engineering, natural sciences, and any other relevant field, and who work in universities, research centres or companies in the region can submit their candidature until 8 February using this form.

Within the programme, selected individuals from the scientific field will be trained on what science advice is and how it works, the challenges and opportunities that science and policy need to address together. They will also be provided with concrete examples of the impacts that science-policy pairing programmes have already had in Europe.

This will be followed by the selection of politicians from any party with whom they will be matched. This is one of the ways to promote science in parliament and has already been done in other countries.

Science Meets Regions Comunitat Valenciana 2023: Green transition and sustainability has been selected by the Joint Research Center (JRC) of the European Commission as one of 10 European initiatives to bring the scientific and political communities into closer contact.

For more information, please write to info@cienciaenelparlamento.org. The project coordinator is Ramón y Cajal researcher at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Emilia Aiello. The Valencian CeeP team includes the initiative's promoter and president, Andreu Climent, and Dr. Eduardo Oliver, UV graduate and vice-president of the association.

Science in Parliament is a non-profit association that aims to make science and scientific knowledge one of the sources of information in the formulation of policy proposals. It emerged in 2018 as a popular initiative with members of the world of science volunteers who dedicate part of their free time to this work.

The Network of Valencian Universities for the Promotion of Research, Development and Innovation (RUVID) was created in December 2001 through a collaboration agreement between the five Valencian public universities. It is currently made up of the following partners: University of Valencia, Polytechnic University of Valencia, University of Alicante, Jaume I University of Castelló, Miguel Hernández University of Elche, CEU Cardenal Herrera University, Catholic University of Valencia and the Higher Council for Scientific Research - Valencian Community Delegation.

The Joint Research Center's Science meets Regions programme aims to take a clear and strategic approach to issues of relevance to regions and cities, in line with the European Commission's priorities, and to fill the existing gap at the local and regional level in EU instruments addressing evidence-informed policymaking.
