Yesterday afternoon the book Historia de la Policía Local de Dénia: 1873-2013. Una instantánea de las Policías Locales de España (History of Dénia’s Local Police: 1873-2013. A snapshot of Spanish Local Police), by José Martínez Espasa, superintendent main-head of Denia’s Local Police, was launched in the Sala de Plenos at Dénia City Council.

Along with the author, the mayor of Dénia, Ana Kringe, the councilor for Citizen Security, Javier Ygarza, the dean magistrate of Denia’s judicial party, Javier Reyes and the captain general manager of Denia’s Marine, Gabriel Martínez also participated in the launch.

José Martínez Espasa (Xàbia, 1978) is graduated in Law and Criminology by the University of Valencia and he is currently taking Doctoral Studies in there. He has taken also the Master’s degree in Criminology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

In 2001 he joined the Local Police of his hometown as an officer and in 2007 he started to manage Denia’s Local Police, being one of the youngest Police Commissioners in the Valencian Community and Spain.

He has written a book on minor crimes investigation that was published in 2006 by the Valencian Government and for which he won the I Award for Police Studies of the Association of Local Police Commissioners of Alicante (AJPLA).

In 2011 he collaborated with the chapter “Drogas y Seguridad Vial” (“Drugs and Road Safety”) in the Manual de Lucha contra la Droga (Manual to Fight against Drugs), published by Aranzadi and coordinated by the Lieutenant Colonel of the Guardia Civil, Nicolás Marchal Escalona.

In addition to articles on safety, he has taught many courses, lectures and conferences on topics related to Local Police, and he actively participates in the Provincial Association of Commissioners (AJPLA) and in the National one (UNIJEPOL).

In Historia de la Policía Local de Dénia: 1873-2013. Una instantánea de las Policías Locales de España, he has changed his legal and criminological facet to go into his own police forcé and, despite it has been the work that more time and dedication has demanded, it has also been the most rewarding as “an appointment with history is fulfilled and puts every person and the institution in the place they deserve”.
