Once again, the UV International Centre of Gandia celebrates its Christmas Concert with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València (OFUV), featuring a very festive repertoire with Chaikovsky's Swan Lake as the main attraction.
The event will take place next 4 December, at Teatro Serrano of Gandia, at 7 p.m.. The entry is free and requires no prior registration.
The audience of the Safor will be able to enjoy the virtuosity of the members of the OFUV, directed by Hilari Garcia, based on a programme with classic works from Christmas repertoires, such as Light Cavalry Overture by Franz von Suppé one of the best-known works of the Austro-Hungarian composer with which the concert will start. It is a classic romantic ballet, which stands out for its excellent beginning and the strength of the wind instruments.
Following, the OFUV will play the suite of The Swan Lake (Op. 20.ª), an emblematic Christmas piece which maintains the artistic line started last year with The Nutcracker of Chaikovski. Despite not receiving all the recognition it deserved in its time, this ballet consolidated itself in the 20th century with its contagious and emotional melodies as one of the most performed worldwide.
For closure, the Orchestra will play the Christmas’s carols Deck the halls and Jingle bells with some modifications of Pascual Martínez.
The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Universitat de València (OFUV) was created by Cristóbal Soler in 1995 in response and to give cohesion to diverse offers of instrumental groups formed by students. The OFUV is currently composed by 80 young musicians, mostly university students, with an average age of 20. It aims to give high quality education on orchestral performance with specialised professors. Since 2011, the principal directors have been Beatriz Fernández Aucejo and Hilari Garcia, current director of the OFUV.
