The Chair for Agrifood Cooperatives of Agri-food Co-operatives of Spain and the Universitat de València - UVchairs - organised a seminar for students at the University of Almeria on Friday March 25th.

If the importance of agri-food cooperatives in Spain is great, it is even greater in Andalusia, not in vain is it the Autonomous Community with the most agri-food cooperatives in Spain. And specifically in the province of Almeria, where greenhouses are the main engine of development, the social economy and cooperative enterprises are of great importance.

This informative conference aimed to reach the students of the University of Almeria and society in general, with the aim of highlighting the current situation of agri-food cooperatives and their future prospects.

The conference was given by Tomás Rojas Pacheco, financial director of Agri-food Co-operatives of Spain. Mr. Rojas explained the economic and labour reality of this type of cooperative in Spain. He encouraged the students to take an interest in the agri-food co-operative world, as it is a sector with a high level of employability. He also encouraged them to submit their work on agri-food co-operatives for the Chair's annual prize for the best research work on agri-food co-operatives.
