Meeting of University Chairs for Sustainability 2030 Agenda, Climate Change and Circular Economy, held the day 4 October, 2023 in Oviedo, was written a joint declaration of union of Chairs for Sustainability in the universities.
The creation of the Network of University Chairs for Sustainability that was carried out with the participation of these four chairs of the Universitat de València (UVchairs):
- Chair for Cooperation and Sustainable Development, led by Sergio Belda Miquel.
- • The Chair for the Transformation of the Economic Model. Circular Economy in the Water Sector, led by Francesc Hernández Sancho.
- Chair for Scientific Culture for Climate Emergency, led by Olga Mayoral García-
Berlanga. - Chair for a New Green Transition, led by Aurora Pedro.
Representatives of different university chairs from all Spain agreed in the creation of the “Network of University Chairs for Sustainability” to promote the collaboration in the training, research, innovation and transference of Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) of the 2030 Agenda of United Nations.
Main highlighted points:
- Collaboration. The chairs, assigned to universities in different territories, are compromised to actively collaborate to tackle the considered challenges by the Sustainable Development Goals.
- Transversal perspective. The Network adopts a transversal and multidisciplinary perspective, recognising and celebrating the presence of the diversity of knowledge and perspectives in the different chairs.
- Encouragement of knowledge and rigorous information. Clear and firm position on the validity and emergency of the sustainability.
- Common platform of communication and interlocution. The creation of a common platform that will facilitate the communication between Chairs that are part of the Network, promoting the collaboration in projects and the dissemination of activities is announced. The Network is constituted as common interlocutor of the cited Chairs.
- Annual rotating meetings: The Network stablishes a compromise to meet, at least, annually in rotating meetings, guests by institutions of the Network, to promote cohesion and evaluate the achieved progress.
