Possible date of implementation (estimated and provisionally to be agreed): December 2020.

This university cooperation initiative is part of the people area of the 2030 Agenda and specifically contributes to the achievement of SDG 5: “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”. This is crystallised through increased knowledge about support groups a formal and non-formal solidarity actions for women in situations of gender bases violence that are being carried out at the community level in towns and cities.

It will also contribute to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), through its dedication to the promotion of democracy and social justice. Particularly, by raising awareness of the necessity for in-depth knowledge of community solidarity actions in neighbourhoods and villages that are conducive to the recovery of women in situations of gender-based violence.

The general purpose of the research that underpins the conference is to identify and analyse solidarity actions that are contributing to the recovery of women in situations of gender-based violence, placing special emphasis on those that have proven to contribute in the long term. Many of these women are immigrants and/or refugees, and therefore face greater vulnerability.

The identification of common elements will allow us to examine their possible transferability to different contexts and, therefore, to develop recommendations for the design of interventions and public policies that have an impact on the recovery of women victims of gender-based violence in Spain and training for professionals in the field (Medicine, Social Work, Psychology, Law, Social Education, etc.)

The initiative is, therefore, a unique action of university cooperation in development education promoted by Universitat de Valencia, as it promotes a social function that goes beyond being only an institution that creates and disseminates knowledge, as it will give a voice not only to experts in the field, but also to the protagonists of the silenced group such as women in situations of gender-based violence.

In this sense, the SDGs contribute to laying the foundations for global transformation leading to inclusive and sustainable development models and, specifically, in the promotion of a structural change in the increase of women's capacities and opportunities and in the increase of their participation in decision-making processes and to make visible their contribution to democracy and to the construction of a culture of equality for society as a whole.
