The Research Group GIUV2013-144 HYBRIDA (Cultural Hybridisations and Migrant Identities), continues its series on Writings from Quebec with the collaboration of the Association internationale des études québécoises (AIÉQ). For the second instalment of 2022, we are honoured to welcome writer Catherine Mavrikakis to the Espai Cultural of the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication. This meeting is part of the Cultural Week activities, supported by the Office of the Vice-Dean of Culture, Equality, Inclusive Policies and Sustainability (CIPIS), the Department of French and Italian and the Institut Français.
Under the title “L’abécédaire” by Catherine Mavrikakis, we will discover one of the most interesting writers of the current French-speaking scene. With a pen that has become a weapon of great evocative power, the author proposes in her novels and essays a unique reading journey through a universe populated by spectres and voices that question the current problems of the contemporary world. From her first novel, Deuils cannibales et mélancoliques (2000) and her involvement in the fight against AIDS, which is embodied in all her characters who share the name “Hervé”, to Impromptu (2021), her latest published text, which shows her clear disillusionment with the academic world from which she distances herself with humour, the author amuses and surprises readers, captivating them through original writing that leaves no one indifferent.
