The Research Group HYBRIDA continues its Young Professionals and Researchers Series with the collaboration of the International Master’s Degree in Migration. In this occasion, Efraín Carrero Ruiz will lead a workshop-conference on the artistic productions and representations by Bolivian people in a migratory context.

Artistic production has a strong link with the social and geopolitical context in which it is produced. Artistic movements and cultural productions are born in specific places and then spread and influence other more or less distanced spheres. Although in some cases it is the artworkthat travels, in our current globalised context it has become increasingly common for the artist to migrate for various socio-political reasons. These migratory events of artwork and artist result in a transcultural dialogue of art history.

In the same way, the artwork is connected to the human condition, and the study of artistic production must also respond to the vicissitudes and life experiences of the artist. This idea of a place that transcends borders, where what is born here expands and transforms, introduces the third variable of the study: the migratory context. From these contextual principles linked to the experience of Bolivian migration, we intend to approach the analysis of some specific artistic productions and representations.

Efraín Carrero Ruiz holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Universitat Politècnica de València. He earned an International Master’s Degree in Migration from the Universitat de València and is currently studying a doctoral degree in Languages, Literatures, Cultures and their Applications at the same university. As an artist, he employs photographic support as a fundamental tool in his production. He is interested in the intersection between reality and elements considered mythical, magical and/or religious. At the same time, he reflects both simple ways of life and discordant political elements, not without a strong poetic charge.

The workshop-conference will take place on Thursday 27 May 2021 at 18:00 in the A32 classroom of Aulario III at the Faculty of Psychology.
